What is ISPM-15 Heat Treatment?
International Standard Compliance
ISPM-15 (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures #15) is a United Nations regulation established by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization). All wooden pallets and packaging used in international trade must comply with ISPM-15 standards.
Purpose & Requirements
The regulation prevents spread of tree pests and diseases across international borders. Wood must be heat-treated to 56°C (132.8°F) for minimum 30 minutes throughout its entire thickness or chemically treated. Heat treatment is the preferred and most cost-effective method worldwide.
Certificate Stamp
All treated pallets receive official ISPM-15 stamp applied permanently. Stamp includes: Heat Treatment symbol (HT), Country code (US), Facility registration number, and Year. Stamp proves compliance and allows international shipping without inspection delays.
Why It Matters
Customs authorities in 170+ countries require ISPM-15 compliance. Non-compliant shipments face rejection, re-shipment costs, or destruction. Adds significant delays and expenses. Certified treatment costs just $3-$5 per pallet but saves thousands in potential problems.
Acceptance Worldwide
ISPM-15 certified pallets accepted in every major market: Europe, Asia, Canada, Australia, and 165+ other countries. EU, Japan, and Australia require this certification for all wood packaging. Peace of mind for your exports.
Heat Treatment Advantages
No chemicals used, making it environmentally safe. No odor or residue issues. Maintains wood integrity and reusability. No special handling required post-treatment. Most cost-effective treatment method available.
Our Heat Treatment Process
Step 1: Initial Inspection
All pallets inspected for cleanliness and damage. Wood must be free of soil, bark, and contamination. Severely damaged pallets rejected for treatment. Moisture content tested to ensure optimal treatment results. Pallet dimensions recorded for documentation.
Step 2: Chamber Loading
Pallets loaded onto large kiln chambers. Loading pattern ensures adequate air circulation and uniform heat distribution. Thermometers placed throughout load to monitor temperature. Safety checks completed before sealing chamber. Capacity: 400-500 pallets per chamber cycle.
Step 3: Heating Phase
Chamber temperature raised to 56°C (132.8°F) minimum. Heating rate controlled to prevent excessive stress. Temperature maintained for minimum 30 minutes throughout entire wood thickness. Larger pallets require longer treatment. Continuous monitoring with automated logging system.
Step 4: Cooling Phase
Gradual cooling after treatment completed. Prevents wood cracking from thermal shock. Cooling to ambient temperature takes 4-6 hours. Pallets remain in chamber during cooling to maintain consistency. Moisture content stabilizes during this phase.
Step 5: Final Inspection & Stamping
Treated pallets removed and inspected for quality. Official ISPM-15 stamp applied permanently. Stamp placement follows international standards. Documentation completed with treatment date and facility info. Pallets ready for immediate shipment.
Step 6: Certification & Documentation
Certificate of treatment issued for each batch. Documentation includes: pallet count, wood species, treatment date, facility registration, and inspector signature. Original documentation provided with shipment. Copies maintained for 3 years.

Common Questions About ISPM-15
How long does the stamp last?
ISPM-15 stamp is permanent and lasts for the lifetime of the pallet. The indelible ink and deep marking ensure the stamp remains visible even after years of use and storage. Re-export requires original stamp only; no re-treatment needed.
Can treated pallets be reused domestically?
Yes! Treated pallets are perfectly suitable for domestic use. Heat treatment does not degrade wood quality or reduce durability. Many companies treat pallets even for domestic use due to the minimal additional cost and potential future export use.
What if a pallet is damaged after treatment?
If a treated pallet becomes damaged, it can be repaired and still retain its ISPM-15 certification if the original stamp remains visible. If the stamped area is damaged, the pallet loses certification and requires re-treatment.
Is the treatment harmful to products?
No! Heat treatment is completely safe for all products. No chemicals are used, leaving no residue or odor. Food products, pharmaceuticals, and electronics can be safely transported on heat-treated pallets. Treatment is environmentally friendly.
What if my shipment is rejected at customs?
Rejection due to improper ISPM-15 treatment is extremely rare with our certification. If an issue occurs, we provide documentation and support for re-shipment. Our perfect compliance record ensures zero rejection risk. Customs recognizes our facility registration.
